Animal control in one Missouri city is going digital.
The St Joseph Animal Control and Rescue is upgrading the pet tags issued when pet owners pay their annual registration fee. Animal Control and Rescue has teamed up with PetHub to issue a smart ID tag for pets, which provides an extra layer of protection for pets and their owners.
Humane Educator for the St Joseph Animal Control and Rescue, Jennifer Lockwood, says the upgraded tags will help animals get home quicker. She adds that the new tag will involve a "QR" code that is printed on the animals tag.
"If a pet is lost and out roaming around and has one of those tags, and somebody finds them, they can scan that QR code with any QR scanner and it will pop the available information on the pet that the owner has selected to be available."
The new pet tags will be available on January 1st, 2020.
